Microsoft SCCM 2012 R2 – Pre-Requisite Installs Part 3
3rd February 2015In the first two posts on this multi-part blog post about installing Microsoft SCCM 2012 R2 I covered the pre-requisites for Active Directory and SQL Server (Reporting Services). In Part 3 I am covering the requirements for the Windows OS for the SCCM 2012 R2 Site Server.
Windows Server 2012 R2 Adding SCCM 2012 Requirements – Roles, Features and ADK
From Server Manager choose the Add Roles and Features.
Click Next
As we are using the default here click Next
As we are using the default here click Next
Add Web Server (IIS) and Windows Server Update Services, accept any prompts to install additional features. Click Next
Install the following features, accept any additional features that are required.
.NET Framework 3.5 Features (Install all features)
.NET Framework 4.5 Features (Install all features)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Remote Differential Compression
Click Next
Click Next
Add the following IIS components.
Common HTTP Features Default Document Directory Browsing HTTP Errors Static Content HTTP Redirection |
Application Development NET Extensibility 3.5. NET Extensibility 4.5 ASP ASP.NET 3.5 ASP.NET 4.5 ISAPI Extensions ISAPI Filters |
Health and Diagnostics HTTP logging Logging tools Request Monitor Tracing |
Management Tools IIS Management Console IIS Management Scripts and Tools Management Service |
Performance Static Content Compression |

Next install WSUS, click Next
Because the SQL server isn’t being installed locally I am going to use the WID Database, click Next
Define where you’re going to save the WSUS Data, click Next
Use the Specify an alternate source path option to select the path, if it’s from a DVD use drivepath\Source\sxs\ as the location, click Install
Once Complete click Close
There will be a message advising that there is a requirement to configure the WSUS instance once installed. Ignore the message and go on to install the ADK
Download the ADK from http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=39982
Run the file to start the installation process.
You may be prompted to install .Net Framework 4.5, restart the server when prompted.
Accept the default location and click Next
Click Next
Read the License Agreement and click Accept
Install the following components only and then click Install
- Deployment Tools
- Windows PreInstallation Environment (Windows PE)
- User State Migration Tool (USMT)
Wait a couple of minutes for the installation to complete.
Click Close.
